I think that these pictures are almost two years old.  This is a canoe trip that we took in the early summer of 2002.  This is the same river that we had attempted the summer before and ended up walking the canoe most of the way.  This time we went early enough in the season but still not early enough to beat the black flies.  You can see that Jay is wearing the upper body net.  This is a lifesaver here!  The blackflies are a constant annoyance.  We stopped to have cheese and crackers for lunch and as you can see from the picture it was quite a challenge.  We couldn't take our nets off because of the blackflies so we ate under the nets.
